BOSCOMBE’S controversial surf reefis set to re-open in April

BOSCOMBE'S controversial surf reefis set to re-open in April after Bournemouth council received an insurance payout of more than £300,000.

Tourism chief Mark Smith said he hopes the reef will enhance a planned coastal activity park for the town's seafront.

The firm that built the £3.2 million structure, New Zealand-based ASR, has since gone into liquidation and Bournemouth council is one of its creditors.

The plans to re-open the reef have been criticised by Labour councillor Ben Grower, a long-term critic of the reef, which has not been in operation since it was damaged by a boat's propeller in 2011
